Single Camera Motion Capture

Using one single video clip, I processed my video content into Wonder Dynamics , Move Ai , Radical Motion. below are the results from my test and which application works best for the results you’re looking for.

First Intial thoughts are that Wonder tends to dip into the floor , which means its hard to use outside of the original camera. Radical doesnt capture hands, and seems to have a solver that isnt as clean as Move. Move to me is the application i would use if i needed minimal cleanup. But there is still benefits to each of them.

Wonder Dynamics:

Wonder Dynamics is probably my favorite of all three. What i like about it is that it takes the same video and comps your avatar over the actor. It blurs out the original actor , gives you clean plates , mocap fbx, Unreal export, USD. For me, if your just looking to shoot content that blends 3D conent, this is a clear win. But the downfall is the quality of the mocap itself. It tends to ignore floor contact, and makes it hard to use outside of the original footage. Other positive advantages is that it also captures fingers and also captures face.

Radical Motion:

Radical Motion is actually pretty robust. It captures only FBX data, but the app has many cool features. for one, this is just one feature of the app. There is also the ability to livestream you mocap from your iphone onto thier app, which stands out from all the other applications im testing. Although at the time hand tracking wasnt available , it coming. There is also another feature called Canvas, This allows you to set design your 3d environment so that your can build your experience rather quickly. Feels like Radical motion will soon have a clear advantage within coming months / year.

note: Radical Requires a T pose to initiate a clean capture, its possible i didnt capture it properly in this test.

Move One:

This is probably the best app to capture useable mocap data for your projects. I found it to work well enough for me to use with little cleanup. Although there are other systems out there that use AI for better quality, i found this useful when on the road.
