Comparing 3 Different Motion Capture Systems: Captury / Move one / Vicon

Description and Comparison of Three Motion Capture Systems

#### Captury (Purple Avatar)

Captury is an AI-driven, markerless motion capture system that utilizes multiple cameras—in this demo, 12 cameras—to track a performer's movements. The primary advantage of using Captury is its simplicity and efficiency in capturing motion data. It allows for rapid data acquisition, with the capability to capture a performer in as little as 10 seconds. This contrasts significantly with suit-driven systems, which require considerable time for calibration and donning the suit. Captury's ease of use makes it a highly effective option for projects requiring quick setup and fast turnaround times.

#### Vicon (Green Avatar)

Vicon represents the pinnacle of motion capture fidelity. In this demonstration, we used 12 Vero cameras to achieve high-quality capture. The data output from Vicon systems is superior in detail and accuracy compared to other systems. However, this high fidelity comes at a cost: the initial setup process, including calibrating the system and suiting up performers, creates a bottleneck at the beginning of a motion capture shoot. Despite the setup complexity, Vicon remains the preferred choice for projects where the highest data precision and quality are essential.

#### Move One (Red Avatar)

Move One is a single-camera AI-driven motion capture system that uses an iPhone. Its key advantage is portability, allowing for motion capture in virtually any location. This system is particularly valuable for prototyping and research and development (R&D) due to its convenience and ease of use. While the tracking quality of Move One does not match that of Captury or Vicon, its portability and flexibility make it a strong contender for specific use cases. Additionally, Move One offers a live stream multi-camera feature, which enhances tracking quality but reduces its portability, making it comparable to Vicon and Captury in this regard.

### Conclusion

Each of these motion capture systems offers unique advantages and serves different needs:

- **Captury** is ideal for fast, efficient data capture without the need for extensive setup, making it perfect for projects with tight schedules.

- **Vicon** provides unparalleled data quality and is the best choice for high-fidelity motion capture requirements, though it requires more time and effort to set up.

- **Move One** excels in portability and convenience, making it an excellent tool for prototyping and R&D, despite its lower tracking quality compared to the other systems.

Choosing the right motion capture system depends on the specific requirements of your project, including the importance of data quality, the available setup time, and the need for portability.
